THE FOUNDER

Sidi Al-Mandari

was born in Grenade at the xv century and died in Tétouan in 1540, he was a Grenadian military chief (of Granada in Spain) and local Administrator of Píñar (province of Granada). Refugee in Morocco with his troupe and part of the Grenadian nobility in 1480, fleeing the Christian projection in the south of the Iberian peninsula.

Established after its exile in the town of Chefchaouen, it is charged by sultan wattasside Muhammad ibn Yahya in 1484 to strengthening the site of Tittawen (Tétouan),destroyed by the Portuguese a half-century before and where a community of Andalusian refugees was established.

THE WHITE DOVE

Tétouan

An Andalusian jewel. Tétouan is located on the northern tip of Morocco, very close to the south of Andalusia.

In 1286 Abou Youssef Ya’coub the Mérinide had built Qasba of Tétouan which was used as military base for the head office of Sebta. The medina of the city, classified with the World heritage of UNESCO since 1997, built from the 8th century. Its architecture testifies the influence of Spain in this area.

Neighbourhoods of Tétouan belong to three types of different architectural styles: Andalusian style (the Medina); Spanish style of the beginning and the middle of 20th century (Ensanche) and style after independence (suburbs).
